OOH Registered Veterinary Nurse – New Priory Vets (Brighton)

About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic, team-orientated OOH Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our part-time team at New Priory Vets in Brighton. As part of our dedicated out-of-hours (OOH) PETS service, you’ll support central Brighton’s prestigious veterinary hospital, ensuring continuous care for patients overnight.

Our Brighton hospital offers a full range of first-opinion services, including medicine, surgery, CT scanning, ultrasound, radiography, dentistry, and nurse clinics, backed by specialist support within the practice.

Key Responsibilities

As part of inspiring vet care, your responsibilities will include:

  • Working as sole charge nurse during night shifts (4:30 PM – 1 AM / 10 PM – 9 AM, on a rotating schedule).
  • Assisting with routine and complex surgeries.
  • Managing emergency and critical care cases.

You’ll work closely with veterinary surgeons and the wider team to ensure:

  • High-quality nursing care for patients.
  • Excellent client experiences through strong communication and clinical support.
  • Contribution to clinical standards and practice development.

Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for a confident, motivated, and team-oriented Registered Veterinary Nurse (RCVS) with the following qualifications and attributes:

Essential Requirements

  • RCVS registration as a Veterinary Nurse.
  • Clinical experience in a first-opinion practice, with growing expertise in medical and surgical nursing.
  • Strong communication skills to build trust with clients and colleagues.
  • Organisational and time-management skills to balance workloads effectively.
  • A proactive approach to continual learning and self-improvement.

Preferred Qualities

  • Experience in emergency and critical care.
  • Ability to work independent sole charge with decision-making confidence.
