Join a family run 24/7 hospital as an OOH ECC Veterinary Surgeon for Leeds Birstall

Paying £55,000 to £60,000 (DOE) on a 7 night on, 14 nights off rota

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an experienced and supportive team

  • £1,500 Annual CPD allowance, Certificate sponsorship encouraged
  • Part of a proactive in-house CPD/Clinical development veterinary team
  • Half hour, OOH consults as standard
  • Part of dedicated night team (1 night nurse, 1 night VCA, receptionist on till 10pm, additional Twilight nurse on till midnight)
  • RCVS, BVA, RCVS, BSAVA professional memberships
  • Surgical, Medical, Endosurgery and Dentistry Certificate holder support from day veterinary team on difficult cases

Vets4Pets Leeds Birstall are looking for an enthusiastic, passionate and experienced OOH Veterinary Surgeon to support the existing veterinary team with their complex caseload.

This role is 7 days on, 14 days off as our OOH Veterinary Surgeon.

Leeds Birstall is a modern and progressive veterinary practice, set up by our Practice Owners, Keith and Julie Leonard in 2012. We are a family run, RCVS Accredited Hospital and Emergency Service Clinic, providing OOH and referral support to 16 referring surgeries. This is run alongside a thriving first opinion business meaning we get the best of both worlds: the case variety you expect to find in a busy general practice and the continuity to work this caseload up and provide high quality, advanced, referral level care to our patients in-house

The bright, air-conditioned surgery is purpose built to industry leading standards and has state of the art equipment including IDEXX laboratory, Digital X-Ray, Ultrasound, ECG, IM3 Dental machine, IM3 dental X-ray, Orthopaedic Surgical Kit, Endoscopy, Tonopen. We have recently had the new fantastic additions of a new CT Scanner and Laparoscopy equipment as well!

We are a lovely, friendly team with great communication, management, clinical support and we work to gold standard. There are 70 members of our team, which include 15 vets, day and night nurse teams and supporting day and night VCAs. A typical night team will comprises of 1 vet, 1 senior RVN, 2 VCAs and a receptionist. The OOH team is also supported by twilight RVNs who work till 12pm.

The role:

This is an OOH veterinary surgeon role that is worked on 7 nights on and 14 nights off basis, shifts are 8am to 8pm.

To be successful in this role, you will be a dynamic and proactive Veterinary Surgeon with solid medical and surgical skills. Experience in ECC will be essential. Key to your success will be your ability to embrace all aspects of the role, delivering excellent patient and client care. You will be a strong team player and enjoy the variety the role will bring. If you are keen to develop within your own area of interest, we offer a generous CPD allowance.

Our night team will regularly perform caesareans, pyometra, exploratory laparotomy with enterotomy and enterectomy. On the medicine side we see many Addisonian, Ketoacidotic diabetic cases and severe pancreatitis cases.
