Investec – Where Out of the Ordinary Happens

At Investec, we do things differently. We're a leading international bank and wealth manager built on a culture of curiosity, entrepreneurial spirit, and human connection. Ideas are heard, ambition is celebrated, and impact is encouraged. As part of a team that challenges convention and strives for outperformance, you'll help shape bold solutions for clients who expect something more than the ordinary.

We are looking for an Operational Risk Manager to join our Operational Risk team within the second line of defence. This role will support independent oversight and challenge of operational risks associated with Private and Transactional Banking products and payment services, helping ensure risks are understood, well controlled, and managed within approved risk appetite. The role provides a great opportunity to get involved in different products and initiatives in Private Bank and engage with stakeholders across all levels in the organisation. In particular, we are also looking for an individual who embraces AI and data analytics to introduce efficiencies, new ways of working, and enhancements in the proactive identification of Operational Risks.

What will I be doing?

The role is responsible for oversight of the implementation of the Operational Risk Framework which includes:

  • Facilitation of risk assessments with business units and support functions, including full end to end transaction lifecycle reviews.
  • Timely capture and review of operational risk events, with appropriate escalation and root cause trend analysis.
  • Manage the scenario analysis process which feeds into the Bank's ICAAP.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of thematic reviews based on external or internal events.
  • Training – promote operational risk awareness and conduct training where required.
  • Compile risk governance forums reports to highlight key risks and events.
  • Participation in Operational Risk forums and working groups.
  • Review and participate in the approval forums for new products, businesses, and projects.
  • Review third party services monitoring & oversight and exit strategies.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
