Company Description
Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service is the largest non-metropolitan fire and rescue service in the UK, serving the counties of Devon and Somerset, including Torbay and Plymouth. With 85 fire stations, the second largest number in England, and around 2,300 dedicated staff, the Service focuses on keeping local communities safe. The organisation places strong emphasis on prevention work to reduce the number of operational incidents it attends. When incidents do occur, the Service is committed to delivering a high standard of response and protection. Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Operational Intelligence role based in Taunton. The role involves collecting, analysing, and maintaining operational data and information that supports effective emergency response and prevention activities. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing incident data, risk information, and operational procedures, and transforming these into clear insights, reports, and guidance for operational teams. The role works closely with colleagues across operations, prevention, protection, and support functions to ensure intelligence is accurate, up to date, and accessible. The position also includes contributing to projects that improve data quality, operational planning, and decision-making across the Service.

- Candidates should possess strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and produce clear operational insights.
- Candidates should possess effective communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly in written reports, briefings, and verbal updates to a range of stakeholders.
- Candidates should possess knowledge of operations management, with an understanding of how information supports planning, resource allocation, and incident response.
- Candidates should possess project management skills, including planning, prioritising tasks, and delivering work to agreed timescales and quality standards.
- Candidates should possess an understanding of stakeholder and customer-focused approaches (including basic sales or influencing skills) to support engagement with internal and external partners.
- Relevant experience in a public safety, emergency services, or data/insight role is beneficial.
- Proficiency with data and reporting tools (e.g., spreadsheets, databases, business intelligence software) is advantageous.
- Relevant qualifications in data analysis, operations management, public administration, or a related field are desirable.
