Senior Manager / General Manager – Improving Population Health NHSGGC’s Public Health Directorate
The Public Health Directorate at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is seeking a Senior Manager / General Manager to provide robust general management support within the Improving Population Health section.
About the Role
This is a critical and influential post accountable for:
- Managing staff, ensuring effective service delivery
- Overseeing budget and physical resources to align with Public Health Priorities and Directorate outcomes
- Ensuring the population of NHSGGC benefits from high-quality public health interventions
The role reports to the Head of Service (providing professional leadership), and the post holder will:
- Develop and maintain Systems, processes, and frameworks to meet Clinical, Corporate, and Staff Governance requirements
- Conduct monitoring, performance management, and evaluation to demonstrate service achievements
- Implement directive decisions of the Public Health Directorate while upholding Staff Governance policies and procedures
- Manage risk across programmes, ensuring adherence to NHS Risk Management Frameworks

✔ Operational & Governance Compliance
- Prioritise Clinical Governance (ensuring clinical standards are met).
- Maintain Corporate Governance (regulatory, financial, and performance reporting).
- Spearhead Risk Management, including programme-level assessment.
✔ Strategic Execution
- Collaborate with stakeholders to integrate effectiveness, efficiency, and accountability into service operations.
✔ Risk & Financial Responsibility
- Oversee core operating budgets—assessing spending, oversights, and operational risks.
- Manage physical resources (facilities, equipment) effectively.
✔ Policy & Interpersonal Alignment
- Ensure adherence to NHS policy updates and service agendas, with a keen focus on communication clarity.
Skills & Experience
- Stronger preference for candidates with public health experience (though not mandatory for applications).
- Proven track record in team management across healthcare, corporate, or public sector environments.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with diplomatic and influential leadership.
- Knowledge of NHS Governance structures, risk registration frameworks, and audits.
