Operational Risk Officer – Operational Risk Data and Infrastructure
Team/Role Overview
The Operational Risk Data and Infrastructure team manages the applications supporting Citi’s Operational Risk Management (ORM) team, driving budget, prioritization, and implementation of solutions for these systems.
The Operational Risk Officer is a strategic professional who stays current in their field, contributing to visionary strategy by applying advancements to their role and broader business needs. As a recognized technical authority, they possess commercial awareness.
This level requires multiple subject matter experts within the business. Strong communication, diplomacy, and influence skills are critical, especially when guiding colleagues and occasionally external partners. The role delivers high-impact, complex solutions that shape an entire area, ultimately influencing operational performance and effectiveness.
What You’ll Do
- Establishes and oversees operational risk policies, technology, tools, and governance to combat losses from internal process failures, control weaknesses, and emerging threats.
- Independent risk assessment—challenges both historical and proposed practices to address persistent root causes of operational losses.
- Governance examples: Technology operational risk, broader risk frameworks.
- Serves as the subject matter expert in:
- Issues Management (KPI/KRI/Corrective Action Plans)
- Vendor and internal partner escalation resolution
- Risk/financial/regulatory exposure analysis via scorecards and performance tools
- Supply chain risk oversight through relationship and compliance scrutiny
- Mitigates critical operational risks impact (e.g., vendor breaches, compliance gaps) via escalation and remediation.
- Widens stakeholder collaboration with internal teams and Lines of Defense to align requirements with dynamic business needs.
- Operates with minimal supervision, demonstrating independence, judgement, and SME authority to seniors and team members.
- Upholds firm reputation and compliance by:
- Ensuring adherence to laws, policies, and ethical conduct
- Escalating and managing control issues transparently
- Aligning business decisions with regulatory safeguards

What We’ll Need From You
Background
- Application support/development experience with familiarity in Artificial Intelligence (AI) evolving capabilities (preferred).
- Strong technical and organisational skills, including senior stakeholder interactions.
Skills & Expertise
- Risk & Compliance:
- Hands-on experience in risk management, controls, governance, or industry-specific roles (banking, finance, insurance preferred).
- Technical:
- Proficiency in operational risk methodologies, enterprise risk frameworks, and regulatory reporting tools.
- Stakeholder Leadership:
- Proven ability to build influence, challenge ** LineofDefense 1**) constructively, and navigate cross-functional relationships.
- Analytical & Communication:
- Expertise in data analysis and synthesising complex information for senior management and teams.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise, influence, and articulate under pressure.
- Scope & Integrity:
- High professional standards and specialised ethics handling, including data privacy and compliance.
