Operational Risk Manager â Risk & Compliance Team
About the Role
Weâre on a mission to make money work for everyone, disrupting traditional banking and evolving beyond prepaid cards to offer personal and business bank accounts, joint accounts, youth accounts, kidsâ accounts, credit cards, savings, investment options, pensions, and much more.
Our Operational Risk team is seeking an Operational Risk Manager to strengthen Monzoâs risk management framework, focusing on operational resilience, financial processes, wealth products, and regulatory compliance. As a second line of defence, youâll advancements in product innovation while ensuring structural controlsâall while supporting our bold mission to reshape banking.

Key Responsibilities
Youâll play a pivotal role in partnering across Monzo to:
- Support the execution and scaling of Monzoâs risk framework, including the Risk and Control Self-Assessment and second-line oversight
- Collaborate closely with Finance and Wealth/Investment teams to embed risk practices and launch products
- Analyse and manage operational risk incidents, working with business units to develop solutions and controls
- Conduct in-depth operational risk reviews, comparing technology, regulatory compliance, and risk exposure to oversight committees
- Assess changes to processes and new regulations, ensuring they align with Monzoâs evolving risk profile
- Develop insights from data (operational incidents, losses, and external risks) to identify threats and trends
- Champion risk culture, breaking down complex concepts into practical guidance for technical and non-technical teams

Who Weâre Looking For
Youâll thrive if you match the following skills and experience:
- Experience in a second line of defence role in traditional banking, financial services, or risk consultancy
- Deep understanding of operational risk regulations, including operational resilience frameworks
- Wealth and investment product expertise to support Monzoâs expanding financial services
- Essential knowledge of financial operational processes and change management
- Extensive experience doing risk oversight, providing challenge to first-line teams, and reporting to senior stakeholders
- Strong ability to analyse data, detect trends, and spot systemic risks
- Highly comfortable in fast-moving environments, balancing independence with pace
- Big-picture thinkers with detail awarenessâhands-on problem solvers who execute well under ambiguity
- Doers who are inquisitive, collaborative, and proactive in driving continuous improvement
