Role Title: Senior Manager - Operational Risk

Division: Risk, Compliance & Financial Crime
Location: Liverpool
Contract: 12 month FTC
Working pattern: Hybrid

About the Role

Support the Head of Operational Risk & Data Protection with development, implementation and embedding of the Rathbones Group risk management framework, with a specific focus on operational risk and other non-financial risks. Support and challenge senior management in meeting their responsibilities for managing risk. Deputise, as required for the Head of Operational Risk & Data Protection, at various governance forums with key stakeholders.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Provide guidance and direction within the Operational Risk team, supporting development of enterprise risk management with wider 2nd line functions.
  • Proactively demonstrate development and embedding of the risk management framework, including operational risk management procedures across the group.
  • Proactively collaborate and co-ordinate risk management across the three lines of defence, liaising within a range of stakeholders to promote risk awareness and improve risk culture.
  • Deliver effective operational risk management with the business, through engagement with senior management in risk committees, with RCSAs, risk opinions and control assurance.
  • Contribute to the on-going assessment and monitoring of current and emerging risks, including operational risk scenario analysis and prudential operational risk capital requirements.
  • Implement appropriate plans, policies and procedures to ensure the effective delivery of the tasks which are to be completed by the Operational Risk Team.
  • Provide timely, relevant and accurate key risk documents and reports to internal and external stakeholders, including internal policies, procedures, guidance and external reporting, as required.
  • Provide robust review and challenge of risk exposures and risk management advice to business development and change risk management, as required.
  • Lead and support direct reports including their annual performance and continual development.

  • Risk qualification, such as International Diploma in Risk Management preferred
  • Experience in a senior manager risk role, preferably operational risk in UK regulated financial services.
  • Able to demonstrate independence when conducting their role.
  • Builds effective relationships with executive and senior stakeholders across the firm and comfortable with having challenging conversations.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work well under pressure, with commitment to meet deadlines.
  • Confident communicator, skilled at developing management information and written reports.
  • Strong collaboration skills - proactively seeks to share information and ideas.
  • Excellent analytical skills demonstrating high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Engaged with developments in the industry, including risk management practices, emerging risks and regulation.
  • Demonstrates a broad knowledge of enterprise risk management.
  • Strong IT literacy and proficient in using Microsoft applications.
  • Self-motivated manager, who is diligent, flexible and demonstrates drive in their role.
