Join Our Team as an Operational Risk Manager (Maternity Cover – 12 Months)

Location: London or Chesterfield

Are you an experienced operational risk professional looking to take the lead in a hands-on role where you can drive forward all aspects of operational risk management? In this position, you will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing Brightwell’s risk framework, supporting risk reviews, strengthening supplier oversight, and ensuring high-quality risk reporting. You will work closely with teams across the business to embed strong risk culture, provide expert guidance, and help ensure effective risk management across all functions.

What you’ll do:

  • Support the implementation, embedding and maintenance of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework, including risk identification, measurement, monitoring and reporting.
  • Work with the business to develop and embed risk appetites and tolerances.
  • Provide guidance and support on first-line RCSAs.
  • Review and update operational risk policies and procedures.
  • Produce clear, concise and accurate risk reporting within required timeframes.
  • Monitor the control environment and recommend improvements based on RCSA outputs, risk events and appetite thresholds.
  • Act as a point of reference for operational risk queries and provide expert advice.
  • Provide risk opinion and guidance on projects and business change.
  • Support the development of a proactive and open risk culture across the organisation.
  • Work with the risk software provider to enhance system functionality and provide training to the business. Maintain and develop the risk incident process, including reviewing incidents, monitoring action plans and producing trend analysis.
  • Support the implementation and embedding of the Supplier Management Framework, including oversight of due diligence requirements.

This role would suit someone who:

  • Demonstrable experience working in a second-line operational risk function.
  • Ability to interpret regulations, policies and procedures and apply them to business activity.
  • Experience working with risk management software.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment such as the FCA.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive, inquisitive and able to challenge constructively.
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of UK defined benefit pension scheme risk management (advantageous but not essential).
