Operational Support Officer
Operational Support Officer
Location: HMP Ashfield, Bristol
Salary: £26,436.80 per annum, plus Serco benefits
Working hours: Full-Time (40 hours per week) or Part-Time (20 hours per week)
Key Accountabilities
As the Operational Support Officer, you will report directly to the Custodial Operations Manager and undertake the following duties:
- Work in the control room, monitoring CCTV and radio systems, alerting staff when alarms are raised, and completing all necessary paperwork.
- Carry out routine net test calls and cell call checks.
- Operate in the Gatehouse area, providing access to visitors and staff—this includes searching vehicles and staff as required.
- Assist with escorting vehicles around the establishment.
- Allocate BWVC (Body Warning Visitor Control) and manage the equipment.
- Support in the Command suite when required.
- Participate in exercises and contingency planning.
- Perform any other duties related to the OSO role.
Qualifications
- Minimum requirement: GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above (or equivalent).
- Good working knowledge of IT skills.

Desirable:
- Experience with security procedures.
- IT proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong communication skills when liaising with external agencies.
Experience
- Preferred: Experience in a secure environment or a similar client group (not mandatory).
Skills and Abilities
- Organisational and analytical skills
- A team player with flexibility and strong interpersonal skills when dealing with visitors, staff, and prisoners.
- Excellent communication and liaison abilities with other agencies.
- Ability to monitor and audit processes and procedures.
- Proficiency in report writing and numerate skills (interpretation, collection, and presentation of statistics).
- Ability to handle sensitive information with the utmost trust and discretion.
- Full valid UK driving licence required.
- Willingness to work shifts, including night shifts.
