Role Overview
As an Operational Support Officer, you’ll deliver exceptional customer service and administrative support to court users, the judiciary, and management. Your work ensures fair and efficient court/tribunal proceedings while maintaining high standards of confidentiality and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting courtroom operations, including preparing case papers, files, and sensitive documentation
- Ensuring courtrooms are ready for proceedings and that processes run smoothly
- Acting as the first point of contact for court users (including witnesses and legal representatives)
- Administering digital records with meticulous accuracy
- Handling confidential information with discretion and empathy
- Managing telephone, email, and in-person communications with the public, judiciary, and other organisations
Two posts will primarily operate in court environments, with some administrative responsibilities.
Key Challenge: Adaptability is critical—taking direction swiftly while balancing numerous duties in fast-paced environments.

Essential Qualities
- Strong focus on customer service excellence in face-to-face and digital environments
- Empathy and resilience to support vulnerable persons (e.g., witnesses)
- Flexibility to adapt across various duties and environments
- Education/Entry Lescribe/Mail: Minimum Level 2 (GCSE grade C/4 or above) in Mathematics and English (or equivalent qualifications)
- Desirable: Prior administrative or customer-facing experience (though not mandatory)
Additional Considerations
✔ Mother Tongue: English (analytical and comprehension skills are a must) ✔ Divisional Work: Temporary posting to other offices (e.g., Bournemouth or Bristol) may arise
Working Arrangements
- Standard Schedule: 37 hours/week (Monday–Friday)
- Flexible Options: Part-time, job-sharing, or flexible schedules (minimum 22.2 hrs/week) are considered if service demands permit
- Court-Based Focus: Natural rotation between administrative/PA duties and operational support
Legal & Security Clearance
✅ All posts require an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check upon successful application ✦ Applicants must meet UK workforce participation requirements ✦ Skilled Worker Visa Note:
- Excluded for new visa applications as of July 2025 with exceptions for renewing holders
- Retrospective extensions for continuous spouses/partners will be considered
