Our Operational Support Officers play a critical role, providing excellent customer service and administrative support to court and tribunal users, judiciary, and management.
About Us
HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of legal cases in England and Wales. We support justice system users and colleagues, ensuring trusted and accessible legal administration. Our mission: connecting people and businesses to justice with a dedicated professional service.

The Role
Positioned primarily within the courtroom, you’ll oversee smooth court operations while delivering administrative support. Working as part of a team, you’ll:
- Support operational, performance, and service standards across your area.
- Advance cases through HMCTS pathways.
- Provide customer service and administrative support to internal/external stakeholders.
Daily duties include:
- Prepping court files, documents, and accessible materials.
- Managing sensitive information securely.
- Digitally recording, updating, and interpreting case details.
- Communicating clearly with:
- Members of the public
- Judiciary and legal professionals
- Agencies and representatives
- Assisting with courtroom preparations and efficient proceedings.
- Serve as a frontline contact, greeting members of the public, including vulnerable witnesses and legal representatives.

Lead Criterion
- Statement of Suitability applies (ասխանреде); /Note: Large application pools may trigger a pre-screening based on the Statement only.
Work Expectations
Working Arrangements
- Standard hours: 37h/week (Mon-Fri).
- Saturday working: Mandated 1x calendar Saturday/month.
- Travel: Occasional local court visits for cover required.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: £25,582****
- Pension: Offered as part of Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme, with a £7,411/year employer contribution.
