About WSP’s Intelligent Infrastructure Group
WSP’s Operations & Safety (O&S) group, part of our Intelligent Infrastructure (II) business, delivers high-value advisory services enabling sustainable and safe public/private sector clients (e.g., National Highways, Transport Scotland, WECA, and National Grid) to achieve:
- Net Zero carbon objectives
- Vision Zero safety goals
The O&S Group specialises in six key technical areas:
- Operational safety – Mitigating safety risks in designs, operations, and technologies
- Transport network operations – Developing and assessing operational models, standards, and procedures
- Human-centred design – Integrating human factors, ergonomics, and behavioural science into environments, systems, and services
- Strategy development – Creating resilient, sustainable, and people-focused strategies (e.g., Digital Roads, Connected Plant) via business cases and innovation
- Policy monitoring & evaluation – Designing and executing multi-disciplinary frameworks compliant with Treasury requirements
- Tunnel systems & operations – Supporting design, operation, and management of highway/utility tunnels

Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate on high-impact projects across transport, infrastructure, and public sector safety.
- Lead/assist in operational safety assessments and risk mitigation strategies.
- Contribute to human-centred design and behavioural science evaluations.
- Develop and implement strategy frameworks aligned with sustainability and safety goals.
- Monitor, review, and advising of polices and operational performance frameworks.
- Support tunnel and transport network operational excellence.
Essential Requirements
- A relevant technical degree (e.g., engineering, applied safety, transport, environmental) or equivalent qualification.
- Consultancy experience (especially within transport, high-risk environments, or public sector).
- Strong ability to analyse technical datasets and communicate insights clearly.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards, operational models, or behavioural safety frameworks.
