Role Overview
We are seeking a talented and motivated Automation Engineer to join the Operations Group. This is a high-impact, hands-on role focused on identifying, designing, and delivering automation solutions across the full breadth of BAM's operational functions, from trade lifecycle management and back-office reconciliation.
You will work closely with Operations, Technology, and business stakeholders to eliminate manual processes, reduce operational risk, and create scalable, auditable workflows using modern low-code/no-code and scripting tools, principally integrated agentic workflow tools (e.g., n8n), augmented by Python and REST API integrations.
Key Responsibilities
Workflow Design & Automation Delivery
- Analyse, document, and re-engineer manual operational processes across all products and Ops functions
- Design and build end-to-end automated agentic workflows integrating with BAM's core systems
- Develop Python scripts to extend automation capabilities beyond native tool functionality
Integration & API Development
- Build and maintain REST API integrations between automation platforms and BAM's internal and third-party systems
- Integrate with Microsoft 365 ecosystem (Outlook, SharePoint, Slack) for notification and approval workflows

Governance, Quality & Documentation
- Maintain a centralized automation backlog, prioritized by in line with a set of agreed factors
- Document all workflows with clear process maps, data flow diagrams, and runbooks
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and error-handling within all production automations
- Ensure all automations comply with BAM's data governance, security, and audit requirements
Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with Operations team leads across all desks to identify and scope automation opportunities
- Present automation roadmaps and ROI metrics to Operations leadership
- Provide training and support to Operations staff on interacting with automated workflows
- Act as internal subject matter expert on automation tooling
Required Skills & Experience
Technical
- Python for data transforms, and custom workflow code (e.g., n8n functions/nodes). Bonus: JavaScript
- Workflow orchestration: Production automations in workflow tools such as n8n (preferred) or similar; branching, retries/backoff, and exception handling.
- APIs (REST/GraphQL): Design/consume APIs
- Data (SQL): Strong SQL; relational DBs (Postgres/SQL Server). Bonus: Snowflake/lakehouse exposure.
- Embed LLMs/agents for classification/extraction/routing/summarization; comfortable using AI coding assistants.
- Microsoft 365 + collaboration: Microsoft Graph integrations (Outlook, SharePoint/OneDrive, Teams); alerting/approvals via email/Slack.
- SDLC: Git PRs/code review, CI/CD, dev→test→prod promotion, basic testing/monitoring.

Domain Knowledge
- 4-7 years of experience
- Prior experience in financial services operations, ideally at a hedge fund, prime broker, or investment bank
- Understanding of trade lifecycle, settlement, reconciliation, and back-office workflows
- Product knowledge across the various asset classes (Equities, Fixed Income,
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical mindset, able to decompose complex manual processes into automatable components
- Excellent stakeholder communication skills; comfortable presenting to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Self-starter with a high degree of ownership and a bias for delivery
- Meticulous attention to detail and a strong sense of operational risk awareness
Desirable (Bonus) Skills
- Knowledge of OCR and document parsing for automating email/PDF-based processes
