An exciting opportunity to play a major role in the operation of Waverley

We are looking to recruit a Director of Marine & Technical Operations (Operations Director) who will have the responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of Waverley in conjunction with the vessel’s Master and Chief Engineer.

This is an opportunity for an experienced Technical Superintendent or Operations Director to play a leading role in both maintaining and operating Waverley.

The candidate will inspire and motivate the team and build strong relationships with stakeholders and partners.

The Operations Director is responsible for:

  • Ensuring that the SMS is implemented and policies are complied with
  • All technical and engineering matters
  • Maintaining the fabric and mechanical equipment of the vessel in good order
  • Overseeing any repairs and renewals which become necessary
  • The planning and execution of all dry-docking / overhaul / refitting work / MCA survey work which requires to be undertaken.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that Waverley and her operation complies with all statutory regulations
  • Maintain and develop the Company plan for surveys and other works
  • Prepare a refit budget for the vessel and monitor expenditure
  • Ensure the effective implementation of the Planned Maintenance System
  • Maintain technical records
  • Maintain relationships with regulatory bodies and in particular the Maritime and Coastguard (MCA)
  • Ensure the effective training, supervision and training of officers.

Applicants must:

  • Have or hold a MCA Certificate of Competency, preferably with Chief Engineer experience
  • Have dry dock experience and experience in planning and delivering refits / capital projects
  • Have an ability to energise teams and foster internal and external relationships
  • Be flexible, adaptable and have exceptional attention to detail
  • Self-motivating and calm under pressure.

  • Steamship experience
  • Experience of being Designated Person Ashore / Company Security Officer
  • Commercial acumen, including contract and fuel management experience.
  • Experienced in creating technical drawings and using suitable software packages.

The Operations Director will report to the CEO.

Conditions and Remuneration

At Waverley our people are the key to the ship’s sustained operation. We are a small team who must be resilient and demonstrate determination every single day to keep the ship operational.

Salary and employer pension contribution subject to negotiation based on experience. Holiday allocation of 25 days + 10 Bank Holidays.

Place of Work – in Glasgow and on board Waverley as required.
