Main Purpose of the Job

Responsible for a portfolio exceeding £60m annual turnover and leading over 500 operational and engineering colleagues across Scotland, the Operations Director will provide strategic and operational leadership across RFM's education, healthcare, Government and emergency services portfolio, ensuring safe, compliant and commercially successful service delivery.

The role is responsible for operational leadership, financial performance, client relationships, compliance, and service excellence across multiple contracts, leading all operational functions comprising management, engineering and specialist supply chain partners.

The Operations Director will play a key role in driving performance, supporting long-term contract strategy, and delivering high-quality outcomes for clients and end users.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of Regional Operations Managers, Contract Managers, and technical specialists, creating a high-performance culture focused on accountability, safety and service excellence
  • Operational leadership of hard and soft FM services across multiple contracts (PFI and Non PFI contracts in public and private sectors)
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of RFM Scotland, identifying opportunities for growth, innovation and operational improvement
  • Ensure contractual compliance, KPIs, and SLAs are consistently met or exceeded
  • Own the operational P&L for the Scotland portfolio, ensuring sustainable profitability, cash performance and delivery of contractual obligations
  • Build strong client relationships and act as a senior operational escalation point
  • Provide executive oversight of the technical assurance programme across Scotland, ensuring compliance with all relevant statutory, regulatory and technical standards
  • Own commercial risk and opportunity management across Scotland, ensuring appropriate controls, governance and mitigation measures are implemented by regional teams
  • Support diversity, inclusion, and workforce development initiatives
  • Support tendering and mobilisation of new contracts
  • Implement best practice and continuous improvement in operational delivery
  • Drive health, safety, environmental, and sustainability excellence across all operations in Scotland
  • Lead contract retention, renewal and extension strategies across the Scotland portfolio
  • Act as a member of the Scotland Senior Leadership Team, contributing to business planning, governance and strategic decision-making
  • Act and ensure all those within your control act professionally to protect and maintain the good standing of the Company within the industry and its clients

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience leading large-scale FM portfolios with significant commercial, operational and contractual accountability.
  • Experience leading healthcare or critical environment contracts.
  • Proven P&L accountability.
  • Multi-site operational management.
  • Contractual and compliance expertise.
  • Client relationship management at executive level.

Desirable

  • PFI/PPP experience.
  • Engineering qualification.
  • NEBOSH or equivalent.
  • Healthcare sector experience.
  • Facilities management qualification.
