Operations Director
Managing Director Designate
East Yorkshire | Circa £120,000 - £130,000 + Performance Bonus + Executive Benefits
The Harland Partnership and Consortium Professional Recruitment have been exclusively retained to identify an exceptional Operations Director to join a highly successful engineering and manufacturing business as part of its long-term leadership succession strategy.
This appointment has been created as part of a carefully considered long-term leadership succession strategy, with the successful Operations Director expected to develop into the Managing Director role through a planned transition.
Initially assuming responsibility for Engineering, Manufacturing and Purchasing, the successful individual will work alongside an experienced executive leadership team, progressively broadening their contribution across commercial performance, organisational strategy and business leadership.
With revenues approaching £80 million, approximately 500 employees and ambitious growth plans that will see the business exceed £100 million turnover and beyond, this is an opportunity to influence not only operational performance, but the future direction of the organisation itself.
The Appointment
Reporting into the senior leadership team, the Operations Director will provide strategic leadership across a complex, engineering-led manufacturing environment where customer responsiveness, engineering excellence and operational performance are fundamental to continued success. Beyond the day-to-day leadership of Engineering, Manufacturing and Purchasing, this appointment will play a key role in shaping the future capability of the business through operational improvement, organisational development, strategic planning and leadership succession.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
