Operations Director UK

Senior Operations Director – UK – Haslingden & Gillingham Sites

At Camfil, we are seeking an experienced Operations Director to lead all aspects of our UK Operations, ensuring strategic and operational excellence across two key manufacturing sites—Haslingden, Lancashire and Gillingham, Kent. Reporting to the Managing Director UK, this critical role will drive manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, supply chain, logistics, and SHEQ compliance while overseeing a production team of approximately 150+ personnel.

About the Role

This is a senior leadership position with a direct impact on Camfil’s UK operations, requiring expertise in process optimisation, cost control, people leadership, and cross-site excellence. You will shape our future by implementing continuous improvements, fostering a strong corporate culture, and ensuring alignment with our global business strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Production Leadership

  • Oversee all UK manufacturing operations, including production, engineering/maintenance, and inventory control.
  • Ensure production meets customer demand, quality standards, and delivery targets.
  • Lead short-, medium-, and long-term capacity planning in alignment with sales forecasts.
  • Manage production scheduling, resource allocation, and daily performance.
  • Monitor and report key KPIs (safety, quality, cost, delivery, inventory) to the Senior Leadership Team.

Strategy & Continuous Improvement

  • Set and execute manufacturing objectives aligned with Camfil’s UK business strategy.
  • Drive efficiency gains, waste reduction, and process optimisation.
  • Implement new technologies and automation where beneficial.
  • Maintain strategic supplier and stakeholder relationships.
  • Actively improve employer brand positioning for industry-wide competitiveness.

SHEQ Compliance & Culture

  • Ensure full compliance with regulatory, safety, health, environmental, and quality standards (e.g., ISO frameworks).
  • Foster a positive safety culture with a focus on prevention.
  • Strengthen process controls and system robustness against external challenges.

Financial & Commercial Leadership

  • Own operational budgets, cost control, and P&L performance.
  • Optimise capacity and reduce costs while scaling operations sustainably.
  • Support business growth via data-driven strategic decisions.

People Leadership & Development

  • Lead, develop, and coach operational leadership teams and department managers.
  • Recruit, train, and manage high-performing teams with a focus on safety, accountability, and engagement.
  • Implement succession planning for critical operational roles.
  • Build a high-trust, inclusive culture with clear accountability.

Supply Chain & Logistics

  • Oversee inventory management, procurement targets, and supplier performance.
  • Collaborate with finance, logistics, quality and commercial teams to ensure cost-efficient delivery of raw materials.
  • Maintain strong supplier and customer relationships to support operational efficiency.

Requirements

Successful candidates must bring:

  • A degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years in regulated manufacturing environments (e.g., air filtration, pharma, chemicals, automotive).
  • 10+ years of leadership experience, with a track record of managing large teams and transformational change.
  • Proven expertise in multi-site, high-volume manufacturing operations.
  • In-depth knowledge of production processes, industrial operations, and lean/continuous improvement techniques.
  • Hands-on experience in operational budgeting, financial forecasting, and P&L ownership.
  • Strong skills in change management, leadership, communication, and commercial customer focus.
  • Proven ability to analyse operational data, interpret KPIs, and drive performance improvements.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems, including Microsoft Dynamics 365, a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously across diverse business functions.
  • Experience with advanced automation or digital manufacturing technologies.
  • Knowledge of emerging industry innovations (e.g., IoT, AI in manufacturing).
