Are you someone who thrives on solving complex problems, improving systems and keeping critical services running smoothly?

We’re looking for an experienced Operations Engineer II to take ownership of our core banking (CARES), payments and job scheduling platforms – making sure they’re stable, secure and always there when our customers need them.

This is a role where you’ll lead from the front; driving major incident response, championing automation and mentoring others while shaping how we continuously improve.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead major incidents across our core banking, payments and job scheduling platforms, providing technical direction, coordinating recovery activities, and keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Act as the senior technical escalation point for complex incidents and problems, providing expert 3rd-line support and driving permanent resolution.
  • Own platform health through improvements in monitoring, automation, operational tooling, job scheduling and service reliability.
  • Manage system and database administration, ensuring performance, resilience, capacity and recovery requirements are met.
  • Design and test Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity capabilities, maintaining effective runbooks, procedures and recovery plans.
  • Lead complex system changes and releases, ensuring operational readiness, robust controls and successful service outcomes.
  • Partner with Development, Infrastructure, Security teams and suppliers while representing IT Operations in relevant governance and service forums.
  • Promote ITSM best practice, knowledge sharing and continual improvement across IT Operations.
  • Coach and mentor colleagues, helping build a resilient, high-performing team with strong technical capability.

What you’ll bring:

  • Confidence leading incident calls and communicating clearly under pressure
  • Strong experience in IT Operations, Infrastructure, or Production Support environments
  • Knowledge of mainframe operations (Unisys)
  • Solid SQL Server skills (performance tuning, troubleshooting, backup & restore)
  • Experience with Windows environments, PowerShell, SFTP and Azure DevOps
  • Expertise in job scheduling, monitoring tools, and an automation-first mindset
  • Working knowledge of ITIL/ITSM practices in regulated environments
  • A proactive approach to identifying risks and driving improvements
  • A passion for mentoring others and building team capability

Bonus if you have:

  • Significant experience in IT Operations, Infrastructure or Production Support, with ownership of business-critical systems.
  • ITIL Practitioner/Specialist or relevant certifications
  • Experience delivering large-scale automation and operational improvements

A role with responsibility (and trust)

This role includes participation in an on-call rota, providing out-of-hours support for critical services — but you’ll be part of a team that shares responsibility and supports each other.
