Job Purpose

The Operations Management Graduate will assist with leading the manufacturing team at the SAS Maybole Ceilings facility. The Operations Management Graduate will support the efficient day-to-day running of operational activities across the MB site. The role provides exposure to planning, process improvement, performance monitoring, logistics, customer service, and project coordination while developing the skills required for a future leadership position.

The individual will be provided with a robust development plan covering the first 12 months of their employment. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to attend formal training such as Six Sigma or a master’s degree. In year one, the candidate will spend time rotating through each manufacturing sector, working alongside the production management & supervisory teams in a variety of roles to gain exposure, and understanding of the manufacturing processes, products, and 'ways of working'. They will also get exposure to EHS, Quality, and Engineering functions.

Main Responsibilities

Key Activities/Elements

Total: 80%

  • Responsible for achieving a manufacturing area's safety, quality, delivery, cost, improvement, and people key performance indicators.
    25%

  • Identify opportunities to improve process, efficiency, and service delivery using structured problem-solving techniques. Manage and deliver small to mid-size improvements and projects from inception, delivery, to closure.
    20%

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve operational objectives supporting inventory, logistics, supply chain, or production activities where applicable.
    15%

  • Continually coaching, developing, and supporting direct reports in achieving individual R&R’s, personal goals, and an area's KPI through various techniques such as 1-1’s, performance appraisals, and review processes.
    10%

  • Analysing and interpreting results & data – Prepare operational reports, presentations, and performance metrics. Communicating performance of the area and updating stakeholders on project / improvement plans.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education level and/or relevant experience(s)

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a relevant field (e.g., Business or STEM subject).
  • Required: Some work experience within a supervisory or junior management operations/manufacturing environment – related industry not required.
  • Desirable: Masters, preferably in a relevant field (e.g., Business or STEM subject).

Knowledge and skills

  • Excellent computer skills & a good knowledge of Microsoft applications, i.e., Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
  • Good verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organised, able to manage and plan multiple tasks and objectives simultaneously.
  • Team player who works well in a diverse team.

Other requirements

  • Comfortable working in a result-focused environment.
  • High levels of intuition and creativity, confident in asking questions and challenging the status quo.
  • Positive attitude – motivated to learn and develop.
