Lightning Protection Operations Manager

Hybrid - Nottingham Head Office

Horizon is an established specialist contractor operating within the steeplejack, work at height, and height safety and lightning protection sectors, delivering complex access, maintenance, inspection, and remedial works across the UK powered by Vadella.

Established in 1993 Horizon is market leader in the Work at Height & Lightning Protection Industry. Undertaking contracts throughout the UK & abroad. Horizon is a member of Association of Technical Lightning & Access Specialists. The successful candidate would join the management team reporting on a daily basis to the Lightning Protection Technical Director and ultimately the Directors of the business.

About The Role

  • Interviewing prospective lightning protection site personnel, verifying candidate competencies to ensure they meet Horizon contract needs.
  • Undertaking 3, 6 and 12 monthly employment reviews both in person and remotely and ensuring reviews are genuine and meaningful with achievements and outcomes and any actions recorded/planned
  • Hold Operative’s investigatory and disciplinary meetings with HR
  • Regularly review Operative’s training and competency certificates, working with Business Director and Senior Contracts Administrator to ensure training meets client contract requirements
  • Liaise with LC contracts Manager, Senior Contracts Administrator and Business Director to ensure Security Vetting for site personnel is carried out prior to contract start date.
  • Daily liaison with site teams to ensure contracts are carried out to required timescales and budgets
  • Daily liaison with LC Resource Planner to plan and program contracts
  • Liaison with the LC Contracts Manager regarding contract detail, any permits to work arranged, road closures, specialist access required and arranged i.e. MEWP, scaffold etc.
  • Daily liaison with site teams who may be Lone working
  • Dealing with issues affecting site personnel both business and personal, liaise with HR where required
  • Cascade Health, safety, quality and environmental information to site teams via message service
  • Delivery of contract works to timescales and budget
  • Liaise with client, designers, sub-contractors, Horizon LC Contract Manager regarding site works, issues, compliance with Building Safety Act where applicable or CDM Regs to ensure process is followed, documentation completed and returned, site audits undertaken and documented
  • Ensure all Accidents and Incidents are reported by LC site personnel in line with company policy and that you ensure documentation is completed and submitted in a timely manner and cascaded to the Operations & Safety Director for investigation
  • Liaise with Warehouse/Material handling team to confirm materials and equipment required for contract, inform team of any contract changes
  • Undertake Tool BoxTalks
  • Undertake site audits, client meetings, Teams meetings, attend safety group and management meetings as and when required.
  • Ensure compliance with current legislation and guidelines either through direct action or delegation to the Directors

What You Will Bring

  • Relevant formal qualifications, knowledge and/or certification to BS 6651 & BS EN 62305 preferred, or extensive and proven high level of operational experience in the Lightning Protection industry in a similar role.
  • Current or previous experience in an operational supervisory or management role is preferred.
  • Able to manage, motivate and control operational personnel engaged in front line activities.
  • Communicate with Clients at all levels from technical personnel to senior management.
  • Full UK driving license is essential
  • Applicants must be able to lodge in UK or abroad as and when required in order to attend site visits & client meetings.
  • Ability to plan LC workloads and labour force, meet goals and objectives in a timely manner often whilst managing multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Good interpersonal skill, good oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to manage requirements of documentation and compliance with reporting requirements associated with HSE.
  • Good PC skills are essential with experience of MS word, EXCEL & Outlook/Cloud 365 as all operations and business activities are PC based.
