Operations Manager – London Academy for Applied Technology (LAAT)
About the Role
Reporting to the Director of Operations and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), with regular reporting to the CEO, the Operations Manager will lead the Academy’s operational and financial activities. The role will collaborate closely with the Academic Dean, Admissions Manager, Assessment Team, IT Manager, Student Support Manager and Finance Manager to drive operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and sustainable growth.
Job Purpose
The Operations Manager serves as the operational and financial steward of LAAT, ensuring:
- Robust financial management and budgetary control
- Operational efficiency and regulatory compliance
- Continuous improvement across all business functions
- Strategic support to the CFO, Director of Operations and CEO through:
- Financial analysis
- Risk management
- Performance reporting
Key Responsibilities
Compliance & Regulatory Assurance
- Support adherence to regulatory frameworks and Conditions of Registration.
- Lead equality of opportunity initiatives.
- Oversee student success measures.
- Manage governance reporting and regulatory submissions.
- Monitor operational risk and prepare for audits.
- Ensure processes align with OfS (Office for Students) expectations and higher education best practices.

Financial Planning, Budgeting & Performance
- Assess and monitor operational budgets, forecasting, and financial performance.
- Manage supplier relations and procurement controls.
- Provide management reporting and organise data-driven recommendations for leadership.
- Maintain operational dashboards (including Power BI reporting).
Operations Leadership
- Oversee administration, facilities coordination, and IT coordination.
- Lead admissions operations, student support infrastructure, and business continuity planning.
- Drive efficiency and scalability in service delivery.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Maintain operational policies, risk registers, and standard operating procedures.
- Support audits, inspections, and GDPR compliance.
- Ensure safeguarding, health and safety, and partner obligation adherence.

Requirements
Qualifications
- A master’s degree in:
- Finance
- Accounting
- Financial Management
- Business Finance
- Or a closely related discipline (mandatory).
- Professional qualifications such as ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CFA, or equivalent (desirable).
Experience
- 1–3 years in:
- Operations management
- Business operations
- Financial operations
- Institutional administration (essential).
- Experience in Higher Education (highly desirable).
- Proven experience in:
- Budgeting & forecasting
- Power BI reporting
- Governance support
- Operational performance management
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong financial acumen.
- Advanced Excel proficiency.
- Effective stakeholder management.
- Experience with Xero.
- Understanding of Higher Education regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrable operational leadership experience.
