Operations Manager

Operations Manager (Construction Quality)

Hybrid: 80/20 Sheffield Office

Hickton Quality Control is seeking a proactive, reliable, and flexible Operations Manager to join our multi-divisional Operations team. In this role, you’ll take ownership of complex, fast-moving projects in a highly regulated environment, requiring technical knowledge, independent decision-making, and strong collaboration with diverse teams.

Responsible for overseeing the performance of Clerk of Works staff on site, maintaining strong client relationships, and supporting the strategic growth of the business. This hybrid role combines regular travel to active construction sites across the UK, with office-based leadership, offering a unique opportunity to influence quality assurance across multiple projects.

The ideal candidate will bring experience from infrastructure, construction, engineering, surveying, or similar operational environments, along with a solid understanding of quality compliance requirements in regulated settings.

  • Lead internal initiatives to improve service delivery, reporting systems, and technical standards.
  • Visit our portfolio of projects across the UK to support our Clerk of Works and NEC Supervisors and maintain excellent client relationships.
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, promote consistency of service and work with the resource team to ensure that our workforce's key skills and experience are matched to specific projects.
  • Monitor project progress and resource allocation across multiple accounts and provide support where necessary to the head office team.
  • Contribute to internal operational planning, staff development, and recruitment.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to office & site-based staff.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of the role of Clerk of Works, site inspection, and construction quality assurance.
  • Strong technical understanding of building regulations and standards, construction techniques, and materials. High attention to detail and compliance-driven mindset.
  • Proven ability to manage teams and build strong client relationships.
  • Excellent communication, report writing, and organizational skills. Competent user of IT software packages such as MS Office 365.
  • Proficiency with digital inspection tools and reporting platforms such as Procore or similar tablet-based quality assurance software. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proven track record as a Construction site professional for a minimum of 5 years, ability to read and create programmes/Gantt charts using the necessary software.
  • Relevant construction/engineering related Degree & Accreditation (e.g., ICWCI, MCIOB, MCABE membership, HNC/HND in Construction, etc).
