About Morrisons

The Role: Operations Manager

As an Operations Manager, you’ll play a critical role in driving our business forward. Working closely with the Store Manager, you’ll ensure seamless store operations, high standards of safety & compliance, and a thriving, engaged team that delivers exceptional service—for our customers and our colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

You’ll be accountable for delivering end-to-end store operations while ensuring:

  • Operational excellence: Maintaining high standards in routines and resource allocation.
  • Talent development: Identifying, coaching, and mentoring future leaders across the store and region.
  • Leadership & capability: Stretching the Management team’s accountability and planning development areas.
  • Pivoting for growth: Partnering with the People Manager to embed a culture of adaptability.
  • Safety & compliance: Serving as an expert in food safety laws, ensuring full departmental and colleague adherence.
  • Performance improvement: Supporting managers with actionable plans to boost departmental performance.
  • Strategic planning: Contributing to the annual Store Plan, leveraging a commercial mindset to unlock opportunities.
  • Customer focus: Harnessing freedom within framework to exceed sales targets, innovate local solutions, and motivate teams.
  • Stakeholder collaboration: Building relationships with key partners to deliver continuous improvements.
  • Exceptional standards: Leading by example, focusing on what truly matters to customers.
  • Product availability: Overseeing in-store processes for high product availability and building team capability to improve the customer experience.
  • Direct customer insights: Actively seeking feedback from shoppers to shape improvements and work with central teams to enhance service.

About You: The Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for retail industry veterans with hands-on experience managing a large-scale, high-performing operation (ideally £150K+ weekly turnover).

Essential Requirements

  • Retail operations expertise, preferably with experience in customer-facing, fast-paced environments.
  • Strong leadership skills: Ability to listen, respond to challenges, and inspire broad thinking.
  • Coaching prowess: Experience giving constructive feedback to align teams with common standards.
  • Talent-driven mindset: A passion for building team culture and developing people.
  • Conflict resolution & trust-building: Ability to unite diverse departmental teams.
  • Objective-setting: Experience setting clear, aligned goals for departments.
  • Collaborative culture: Capacity to foster open, values-based working relationships.
