Operations Manager

Location: Coventry Employment Type: Full-time Contract Type: Permanent Shift Pattern: Work Shift: Days Hours per Week: 45 Salary: Competitive salary plus benefits Closing Date: 13 July 2026

As our Operations Manager, you’ll:

  • Deliver excellence across the store by embedding consistent routines.
  • Optimise availability, waste control, and shrink to meet key performance targets (KRAs).
  • Review and improve store processes, including:
    • Adhering to contract-based management and wage control.
    • Leading managers and teams in achieving high standards across:
      • Ambient and Fresh departments
      • George and General Merchandising in large-format stores.
  • Drive a culture where colleagues feel valued, trusted, and motivated to exceed expectations.
    • Listen with empathy, respond with care, and foster open, respectful dialogue.
    • Be transparent in decisions, sharing objectives ("the why") and encouraging collaborative problem-solving.
    • Coaching through questions, empowering ownership, and celebrating initiative.
    • Embed "Asdaness"—a passion for heart, pride, and high performance.
    • Foster healthy competition to drive sales across the trading floor.

Key Responsibilities

You’ll need to:

  • Execution and result focus:

    • Demonstrate resilience, precision, and passion for hitting targets.
    • Hold managers accountable for delivery of operational standards.
  • Commercial awareness:

    • Understand the impact of availability, waste, and shrink on store performance.
    • Lead the shrink agenda, driving standards and opportunities for improvement.
    • Ensure POS (Point of Sale) compliance for clarity and customer value.
    • Seize opportunities with clear, actionable outcomes.

Key Requirements

You’ll bring:

  • Experience managing diverse teams in a large-format retail environment, where pace and energy drive success.
  • Strong operational and commercial knowledge of food and non-food departments.
  • A track record of improving availability, reducing waste, and controlling shrink.
  • Experience developing large teams through solid leadership and fostering resilience.
  • Competence in handling employee relations (ER) cases and familiarity with HR policies.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and a dedication to exceptional customer service.
