Operations Manager
Operations Manager
Location: London, United Kingdom
Job Purpose
The Operations Manager is responsible for leading and managing the London Operations function, ensuring the efficient, controlled, and compliant processing of all operational activities supporting the Bank’s Corporate Banking business.
The role holds overall responsibility for operations relating to:
- Corporate lending
- Vanilla foreign exchange
- Vanilla trade finance products
Core objectives include:
- Delivering high standards of service delivery
- Ensuring operational risk management
- Maintaining regulatory compliance
- Fostering client service excellence
The Operations Manager acts as the operational lead for the London Branch, collaborating closely with:
- Front Office
- Treasury
- Risk
- Finance
- Compliance
- Technology
- Head Office functions
To support business growth, maintain a strong control environment, and achieve operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Overall Operations Leadership
- Lead the day-to-day operations function, ensuring transactions are processed accurately, efficiently, and within agreed service levels.
- Develop and maintain robust operational procedures and effective controls.
- Align operational processes with regulatory requirements and the Bank’s internal policies.
Corporate Lending Operations
- Oversee end-to-end operational processing and servicing of the Bank’s corporate lending portfolio, including:
- Loan drawdowns
- Repayments
- Rollovers
- Amendments
- Interest and fee processing
- Loan servicing
- Covenant monitoring
- Provide operational support for bilateral and syndicated facilities.
- Collaborate with Relationship Managers, Credit Risk, and Finance throughout the loan lifecycle to ensure:
- Timely execution
- Accurate record-keeping

Foreign Exchange Operations
- Supervise the settlement and processing of vanilla foreign exchange transactions (spot and forward contracts).
- Ensure:
- Timely confirmation matching
- Settlement processing
- Reconciliation of nostro accounts
- Investigation of failed settlements
- Management of settlement risk via operational controls
Trade Finance Operations
- Oversee all operational activities for vanilla trade finance products, including:
- Letters of Credit (UCP 600 compliant)
- Documentary Collections (URDG compliant)
- Bank Guarantees
- Standby Letters of Credit (ISBP compliant)
- Ensure transactions adhere to:
- Applicable international rules
- Bank policies
- Maintain high standards of customer service and operational accuracy
Operational Risk & Compliance
- Maintain a robust operational risk and control framework, including:
- Risk identification
- Control implementation
- Incident investigation
- Accurate risk reporting
- Actively support:
- Internal Audit
- External Audit
- Regulatory reviews
- Ensure compliance with:
- UK regulatory requirements
- Anti-Money Laundering (AML) policies
- Sanctions laws
- Financial crime regulations
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, motivate, and develop the Operations team, establishing:
- Clear objectives
- Performance management frameworks
- A culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Support:
- Succession planning
- Staff development
- Knowledge sharing
- Ensure departmental capability and resilience are maintained
Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with:
- Front Office
- Treasury
- Risk, Finance, and Compliance teams
- Technology Department
- Head Office Operations
- Act as the primary operational contact for the London Branch.
- Manage connections with:
- Correspondent banks
- Corporate clients
- Service providers
- Auditors
- Regulators

Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Required Experience
- Extensive experience in banking operations, preferably in a corporate or international banking environment.
- Strong operational knowledge of:
- Corporate lending
- Vanilla foreign exchange
- Trade finance products
- Proven ability to lead and develop an operations team.
- Solid understanding of:
- Operational risk management
- Internal controls
- Regulatory governance frameworks
- Experience with:
- SWIFT messaging
- Payment processing
- Settlement operations
- Familiarity with:
- UK banking regulations
- AML (Anti-Money Laundering)
- Sanctions
- Financial crime requirements
- Advantageous (but not mandatory):
- Experience with core banking systems (e.g., Finastra, Temenos, Oracle Flexcube)
