At Mitie, our people are our greatest strength, and our promise is to create a place to work where you can thrive and be your best every day. We're looking for an Operations Manager to lead the end-to-end delivery of engineering maintenance services within a regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
This role is critical to ensuring all maintenance activities are delivered safely, compliantly, and in line with GMP and client standards. You will oversee planned, reactive, and remedial maintenance to ensure asset reliability, operational continuity, and service excellence, while acting as the key interface between engineering teams and the client.

- Lead the delivery of planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, and minor works in line with contractual requirements.
- Ensure continuity of operations across critical systems and shift patterns.
- Maintain full compliance with GMP / GxP standards, statutory regulations, and client procedures.
- Drive asset reliability through effective maintenance strategies including predictive and condition-based maintenance.
- Monitor asset performance trends and implement improvements to reduce downtime and extend lifecycle.
- Manage and develop multi-disciplinary engineering teams, ensuring competency, performance, and effective resourcing.
- Oversee subcontractor performance, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards.
- Coordinate maintenance planning, shutdowns, and critical activities using CAFM and asset management systems.
- Define and monitor KPIs including PPM compliance, asset uptime, and service performance metrics.
- Ensure safe execution of all activities through Safe Systems of Work and Permit to Work processes.
- Manage operational budgets, including labour, materials, and subcontractor costs, ensuring financial targets are met.
- Act as the primary interface with the client, leading operational reviews and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.
- Drive continuous improvement using data insights, lean principles, and performance analysis.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
