Operations Manager

Operations Manager – European Meat Processing Leader

An exciting opportunity exists to join one of Europe’s leading meat processing companies as an Operations Manager based in Cross Hands, Llanelli, Carmarthen.

The role is key to leading an area of responsibility, ensuring optimal factory performance through operational effectiveness, KPI alignment, technical standards, and quality achievement—driven by the development of individuals, processes, and systems.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Performance Delivery

  • Collaborate with the Site Operations Manager to establish a workable strategy, cascading it effectively to production teams.
  • Ensure full order delivery—meeting quality standards, customer specifications, and cost controls while adhering to profit targets.
  • Align production with site business objectives, establishing operational KPIs to meet efficiency, quality, and yield targets.
  • Conduct regular performance analysis, identifying gaps and implementing remedial plans.

Financial & Operational Management

  • Monitor and manage controllable overheads, especially labour costs (permanent and temporary), reporting risks/opportunities to the Site Director.
  • Drive cost-saving initiatives while maintaining profitability and operational efficiency.

Compliance & Safety

  • Remain certified on all food safety legislation, with a HACCP-focused approach, ensuring full factory compliance.
  • Oversee weekly/daily communications to ensure all production staff are aligned on targets and challenges.
  • Adhere to directive from government bodies and clients, proactively addressing compliance and best practice.

Continuous Improvement & Leadership

  • Champion lean manufacturing principles, fostering process and practice optimisation.
  • Cultivate a customer-focused culture, aligning employee performance incentives with quality and efficiency.
  • Develop a proactive leadership style, encouraging employee engagement and successful succession planning.
  • Manage all HR-related activities in alignment with site support teams, ensuring equitable and harmonious industrial relations.
  • Drive health and safety best practice, embedding a safety-first culture and stimulating preventative initiatives.

Requirements & Skills

Experience & Expertise

  • Proven management track record within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.
  • Food Safety Level 3 certification—highly desirable.
  • Financial acumen with a strong grasp of cost-control strategies.
  • Customer-centric mindset, with an understanding of processes to meet consumer demands.
  • Experience in people management, including:
    • Disciplinary and grievance procedures
    • Performance management
    • Recruitment and selection
  • Knowledge of HSE requirements and health and safety compliance.
  • IOSHH certification and IT literacy required.
