With over 46 years of continuous growth, Flanagan Flooring Distributors is a major supplier of flooring products across Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
The Group supplies both retail and commercial flooring markets and has built a strong reputation for reliability, service and long-term customer relationships. Operating across multiple locations, the business combines local market knowledge with group-scale infrastructure across purchasing, logistics, finance, marketing, sales and operations.
Flanagan Flooring Scotland is a long-established and strategically important part of the wider Group. Based in Baillieston, Glasgow, the business serves the Scottish retail and commercial flooring market from a significant regional distribution operation, supported by trade-depot activity and an experienced local team.
Scotland represents a core growth region for the Group, with strong brand recognition, long-standing customer relationships and clear opportunities to improve structure, operational discipline, service consistency and scalability under senior leadership.
The Role: Operations Manager - Scotland
Purpose of the Role
The Operations Manager - Scotland is responsible for the effective day-to-day running of the Scottish business, excluding sales and purchasing.
This role acts as the senior operational lead for Scotland, ensuring that strategy, plans and priorities are translated into consistent execution across people, processes and systems.
The role provides structure, clarity and accountability across the operation, ensuring the business runs smoothly, predictably and professionally. This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for operational delivery and for coordinating the non-commercial functions of the Scottish business.
Reports directly to the Group Managing Director and works closely with the Commercial Director - Scotland, Group Purchasing and wider Group leadership.
Scope & Responsibility
Operational Leadership
- Take responsibility for the smooth day-to-day operation of the Scottish business.
- Ensure operational functions work together effectively to deliver high levels of customer service.
- Act as the senior operational lead for Scotland, providing clear direction, structure and follow-through.
People Management & Culture
- Lead, manage and develop the Scottish operational team through managers and supervisors.
- Set clear expectations, roles and standards of performance.
- Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism and continuous improvement.
Logistics, Warehouse & Transport
- Oversee warehouse operations, stock handling, distribution and trade-depot standards.
- Ensure efficient delivery planning, route discipline, fleet utilisation and operational cost control.

Customer Service & Administration
- Oversee customer service, order processing, invoicing and administrative functions that sit within the operational structure.
- Ensure customer issues are resolved promptly and professionally, with recurring issues addressed at root cause.
- Drive consistency, accuracy and discipline in operational execution.
Financial & Commercial Discipline
- Work closely with Group Finance to control costs, improve operational efficiency and manage working capital impacts.
- Own operational cost control, including labour, transport, overtime, site overheads and avoidable waste.
- Support profitability through efficient execution rather than direct sales activity.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Ensure full and effective use of Group systems, reporting tools and operational processes.
- Standardise processes where appropriate while respecting local Scottish customer and operating requirements.
- Identify inefficiencies and implement practical improvements that are adopted by the team.
Facilities, Site Services & Compliance
- Manage day-to-day site facilities and resolve general building issues.
- Arrange contractor visits, maintenance and repairs, including pest control, office equipment servicing and cleaning contracts.
- Coordinate utility suppliers, site services and solar panel logins, maintenance and servicing.
- Coordinate maintenance and servicing of alarm systems, fire alarms, fire extinguishers, air conditioning units and other compliance equipment.
- Maintain accident, incident and near-miss records.
- Coordinate external health and safety inspections and ensure remedial actions are followed through.
- Maintain health and safety compliance across Scotland, including site inductions and facility tours.
Operational Support, Stock & Trade Counter
- Support operational requests from the sales team and senior management.
- Produce ad hoc operational reports, procedures and documentation.
- Complete stock accuracy investigations and support investigations into discrepancies.
- Coordinate depot stock takes and ensure follow-up actions are completed.
- Support day-to-day Edinburgh Trade Counter operations and resolve operational issues.
Projects, Supplier Management & Continuous Improvement
- Lead operational and continuous improvement initiatives across Scotland.
- Review and improve company processes and support system improvements.
- Manage supplier contracts, renewals, sundry payments, price reviews and comparisons.
- Monitor operational standards and ensure agreed actions are implemented.
- Represent Scotland’s operational requirements at Group IT meetings.

Success Factors in the Role
Success in the Operations Manager role will be measured less by activity and more by outcomes. In the first 12 months, strong performance would typically include:

Longer term, the strategy is to build a scalable, resilient Scottish business with strong leadership, reduced dependency on individual firefighting and a clear operating identity within the wider Group.
The Operations Manager will play a central role in shaping and executing this strategy. The role exists to ensure that the Scottish business is well organised, well led and operationally disciplined, allowing commercial leadership to focus on growth, customer relationships and future opportunities.
Working Within the Group
The Operations Manager will work closely with senior leaders across Northern Ireland and Scotland and will be a trusted operational partner to commercial, purchasing, finance, HR and systems colleagues.
The role includes direct leadership responsibility for the Scottish operational management team, with scope to improve structure, clarity and capability over time. Authority is built through judgement, credibility and delivery rather than hierarchy alone.
Progression & Role Development
This role is designed to grow in scope over time as confidence, capability and impact are demonstrated.
In the initial phase, the focus will be on taking full ownership of Scotland’s operational performance, leading the team effectively and demonstrating sound judgement across people, process, service and execution.
As the Operations Manager establishes credibility and delivers results, the pathway, expectations and milestones will be discussed openly and reviewed regularly to ensure clarity and fairness on both sides.
