Job Summary

The Operations Manager – Low Pressure will lead the Redditch Senior Management Team, responsible for overseeing production processes, optimising resource allocation, and ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and efficiency standards. This position thrives on:

  • Strong leadership and deep expertise in manufacturing, particularly in high-precision assembly environments
  • Proficiency in managing cross-functional teams and process improvement initiatives
  • Data-driven decision-making to meet production targets and strategic business objectives

The ideal candidate should excel in continuous improvement, supply chain coordination, and production planning.


Responsibilities

Production Management

  • Oversee daily operations in the manufacturing facility, ensuring:
    • Production schedules are met
    • Quality standards are maintained
    • Resource utilisation is optimised
  • Coordinate complex assembly workflows, ensuring seamless collaboration between:
    • Production, engineering, and quality control teams

Continuous Improvement

  • Implement lean manufacturing principles to:
    • Enhance productivity
    • Reduce waste
    • Improve overall efficiency
  • Identify and address process bottlenecks, recommending actionable solutions

Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage, mentor, and motivate a cross-functional team, including:
    • Supervisors
    • Operators
    • Technical staff
  • Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and teamwork

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Work closely with the Quality Team to ensure compliance with:
    • Quality standards
    • Regulatory requirements
    • Industry certifications (ISO 9001 and IATF16949)

Health & Safety

  • Champion HSE initiatives, including:
    • Conducting regular risk assessments
    • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations
    • Promoting a safety-first culture

Supply Chain & Inventory Management

  • Collaborate with supply chain and procurement teams to:
    • Manage inventory levels
    • Reduce lead times
    • Secure materials for complex assemblies
    • Ensure part availability for production deadlines

Budget & Cost Control

  • Monitor operational budgets and implement cost-saving measures:
    • Track expenses
    • Prepare forecasts
    • Analyse operational KPIs
    • Report to senior management

Stakeholder Communication

  • Act as the primary contact for:
    • Internal stakeholders (engineering, finance, sales)
    • External partners (customer service teams)
  • Ensure alignment on production goals and project timelines

Basic Qualifications

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent experience)
  • Certified as a Green Belt or higher Lean practitioner

Travel & Work Arrangements

  • Fully site-based position
  • Occasional travel to:
    • Customers
    • Suppliers
    • Other IR sites in the UK & abroad

Key Competencies

  • Proven experience in operations management within:
    • Manufacturing or complex assembly environments
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Lean manufacturing
    • Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement methodologies
  • Excellent:
    • Leadership
    • Communication
    • Interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with:
    • ERP and production planning systems
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards
