Employment Opportunity: Health Service Officer Level 4 (Food Services – Stores Team) (Temporary, 7 Months with potential for extension/permanency)

  • Salary: $66,570 – $68,880 plus 12.5% super

About the Role

The Food Services Stores Team at The Canberra Hospital is seeking a temporary Health Service Officer Level 4 to support the smooth operation of our food services, supplies delivery and internal warehousing.

Key Performance Responsibilities

  • Order & receiving: Process orders for consumables, non-food items, and food products, ensuring timely and accurate replenishment of supplies.

    • Check incoming stock adheres to hospital protocols and processes.
    • Manage, organise and rotate stock to minimise wastage.
  • On-hand and delivery services:

    • Serve, deliver and collect meals and beverages to various hospital departments, wards, and outstations via the Meals on Wheels initiative.
    • Operate and clean utensils and equipment adherent to food safety standards.

  • Stores management & warehouse coordination:

    • Ensure safe and suitable storage of all supplies and consumables.
    • Generate and manage the operation of ‘stock takes’ to enhance efficiency.
    • Coordinate prioritisation of orders and deliveries across hospital departments and processes.
  • Team Collaboration & Customer Service:

    • Maintain effective communication with customers and colleagues in the Food Services team.
    • Operate with discretion and integrity when assisting customers.
    • Seek feedback where necessary and suggest changes to improve service quality from internal and external clients.
  • Operational Responsibilities:

    • Perform related duties required by management or supervisors per the While You Were Out (WYWO) system. This includes assisting with minor product preparation (e.g., salads, sandwiches and texture-modified meals) where necessary.

Please be aware

  • A current Australian driver’s licence is required to perform deliveries outside the main hospital area.
  • This role operates on a rotating roster, including weekend and shift work.
  • Successful appointment requires:
    • a national police check, AND
    • compliance with occupational assessment, screening, and vaccination policies for Canberra Health Services.
