Operations Performance Leader – Area Manager (Permanent, Full-Time)

About the Role
Join Royal Mail as an Operations Performance Leader, shaping the future of delivery excellence in a transformational regional role. As an Area Manager, you’ll lead Customer Operations Managers (COMs) across multiple Delivery Offices, driving performance improvements, fostering accountability, and ensuring exceptional service delivery—whether handling letters or parcels.
This is a hands-on, leadership-focused role in a fast-paced, collaborative operational environment, where you’ll:
- Inspire teams to excel in sustainability, innovation, and process efficiency.
- Lead transformation projects, ensuring time-and-budget delivery.
- Coordinate with Trade Unions and resolve challenges with constructive problem-solving.
Responsibilities
Core Duties
- Managed Performance:
- Oversee team performance, boost accountability, and drive scorecard improvements through engagement.
- Identify trends, provide tailored coaching, and enhance operational excellence in COMs.
- Transformation Leadership: -Head up operational change projects, ensuring alignment with sustainability goals.
- Leadership Development:
- Support COMs in professional growth, decision-making, and leadership capability.
- Collaborative Culture:
- Foster cross-team relationships, sharing best practices and solving challenges innovatively.
- Sustainability & Continuous Improvement:
- Embed process efficiencies, use data-driven tools, and ensure long-term operational resilience.
- Conflict Resolution:
- Address disputes fairly, maintaining positive relationships with Trade Unions.

Requirements
Essential
- Exceptional communication & relationship-building skills, with a passion for collaboration.
- Proven track record in leading high-performing teams in fast-paced operational environments.
- Ability to deliver measurable improvements in logistics or complex processes.
- Competence in business tools & data analysis to inform strategic decisions.
- Strong commitment to innovation and embedding accountability within teams.
