The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a graduate-level Operations Scientist to join our manufacturing and R&D facility in Witney, West Oxfordshire within our Technical Services Sensor Team.
Working in a small and friendly team, you will be providing technical support to Witney’s manufacturing facility. At Abbott, you can work with great people to help our patients and customers live their best lives.
Day-to-day, your work will be to plan and carry out projects and investigations to support manufacturing processes and yield improvements. You’ll need to enjoy interpreting data and writing reports, as a lot of your work will involve analysing results and making recommendations on material, machinery or process improvements.
At Abbott, you can shape your career whilst helping to shape the future of healthcare. You will also be given additional responsibility for continuous improvement projects and will be required to provide technical expertise to colleagues in engineering, production and quality. I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
