Operations Supervisor - Arriva Grays Garage

Location: Arriva Grays Garage Position: Operations Supervisor

We're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Operations Supervisor to join our team at Grays Garage. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced supervisor who thrives in a fast-paced operational environment and is passionate about delivering safe, reliable, and customer-focused bus services.


About the Role

As an Operations Supervisor, you'll play a vital role in:

  • Leading our operational teams
  • Ensuring excellent service delivery
  • Supporting our drivers
  • Maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance, and performance

What You’ll Be Doing

Health & Safety Champion

  • Promote a positive safety culture across the depot and on the road
  • Identify and address unsafe behaviours and working practices
  • Support compliance with Arriva’s Health, Safety & Environment Management System and company initiatives

Customer Experience

  • Deliver professional and timely responses to customer enquiries
  • Investigate customer complaints and implement preventative actions to improve service

People Management

  • Ensure drivers attend work on time and receive daily briefings
  • Allocate duties and vehicles effectively
  • Maintain high standards of uniform and personal presentation
  • Support employee development and promote a culture of Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI)
  • Manage absence records accurately and apply HR policies consistently
  • Develop positive working relationships with Trade Union representatives

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee daily bus service operations to ensure all duties are covered
  • Monitor service performance, recording lost mileage and operational disruptions
  • Collaborate closely with the Engineering team to maximise vehicle availability
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and support local operational objectives

Financial & Operational Performance

  • Ensure accurate timekeeping and payroll inputs
  • Manage overtime and duty planning for cost-effective operations
  • Use operational data to make informed decisions and improve performance

Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain accurate operational KPI reporting
  • Share best practice and contribute to business improvement initiatives

Corporate Responsibility

  • Represent Arriva’s values and brand professionally
  • Support community engagement and deliver excellent service to customers and stakeholders

What We’re Looking For

You will have:

  • Previous supervisory experience managing people, resources, or operations
  • Good knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and safe working practices
  • A valid First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills
  • A strong customer-focused approach
  • Strong IT skills and confidence using operational systems
  • Ability to influence, motivate, and lead teams effectively
  • Excellent organisational skills and sound decision-making ability
  • Industry-specific knowledge (PCV or HGV)
  • Experience working collaboratively with Trade Union representatives
  • A flexible, resilient, and self-motivated approach
