Operations Systems Development Manager - National Depot Network

James Latham is one of the UK’s leading distributors of timber and timber panel products. As part of our continued investment in operational systems, depot capability and national process improvement, we are seeking an experienced Operations Systems Development Manager to support our depot network and National Distribution Centre.

The Opportunity

This is a national, field-based role focused on helping our depot teams get the maximum value from core operational systems including WMS, TMS, Geotab Telematics, Digital EHS systems and other depot-facing tools. Working closely with depot managers, the NDC, IT, Health & Safety and central operations, you will build capability, embed best practice, standardise processes and support measurable operational improvement across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • System adoption: Partner with depot teams to maximise the value and consistent use of WMS, TMS, Geotab Telematics, Digital EHS systems and other operational systems.
  • Operational improvement: Identify underused system functionality and develop practical plans to improve productivity, utilisation, accuracy, planning discipline and service performance.
  • Process standardisation: Support the introduction of consistent ways of working across the depot network, reducing variation and embedding best practice.
  • Capability building: Coach depot managers, supervisors and key users to improve confidence, system knowledge and day-to-day operational control.
  • Super-user development: Build a network of local super-users who can sustain improvements and support effective system use within each location.
  • Compliance and safety: Promote effective use of Digital EHS systems and other systems to strengthen safety management, training compliance and operational visibility.
  • Data-led improvement: Use system data, KPIs and reporting to identify gaps, track progress and highlight opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Cross-functional working: Act as a link between depots, central operations, IT, Health & Safety and the NDC to ensure systems support practical operational needs.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
