Operations Team Leader

Location: Savers Stead House DC, Darlington Hours: Monday to Friday, 2:00 pm–10:00 pm (with flexibility for other shift patterns) Hours per Week: 40 Salary: £34,121.88

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the superior Superdrug Supply Chain, working within one of three busy Distribution Centres as a Team Leader.

This position is based at Stead House Distribution Centre (SHDC). While hours are primarily as stated, flexibility across all shift patterns may be required.

The Responsibilities

As a Team Leader, you will support the Shift Managers with the daily management and coordination of site operations, leading a team within a designated area of the distribution centre.

At SHDC, daily stock supporting approximately 200 Savers stores means this role operates in a fast-paced environment, requiring a focus on meeting and exceeding set standards.

Central to the position is the ethos of "One Team"—maximising efficiencies, driving growth and innovation, and ensuring safe working practices to deliver a customer-focused Supply Chain.

Key Responsibilities

  • People Management: Take ownership of staff issues within your area, ensuring a fair and consistent approach to company processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Team Leadership: Motivate, coach, and develop teams, facilitating training and development to optimise performance.
  • KPI Accountability: Ensure accountability for nominated Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), reporting progress regularly to the Shift Manager.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously review and enhance specified processes to increase efficiencies, cooperating with the management team for improvements.
  • Health & Safety: Collaborate with the Health & Safety team to develop and update safe systems of work and risk assessments; communicate changes effectively.
  • Shift Handover: Facilitate seamless shift handovers for incoming teams.
  • Communication & Updates: Maintain regular updates with the Shift Manager, identifying and resolving issues promptly.
  • Culture & Leadership: Model the company’s core values and be an advocate for superior health and safety standards.
  • Support & Representation: Assist the Shift Manager with projects, reports, and ad hoc tasks; deputise as necessary when required, and lead team briefings when needed.

Key Skills & Attributes

  • Collaboration: Work effectively with Team Leaders, Shift Managers, and colleagues to drive business success.
  • Planning Expertise: Strong planning and project management skills.
  • Analytical & Technical: Excellent analytical and IT skills.
  • Distribution Experience: Proven management experience in a Distribution or equivalent environment preferred.
  • Communication & Engagement: Clear and engaging interpersonal and team management abilities.
  • Cost & Efficiency Management: Good grasp of cost reports, operational efficiencies, and cost control.
  • Warehouse Management Systems Knowledge: Solid working knowledge of WMS applications.
