Operations Technician

Location: East London

Salary: £55,000 - £60,000 + Benefits

Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time, Day & Night Shift

About the Role

Our client is looking for an Operations Technician to join a leading energy generation facility in East London. This is a hands-on role responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of plant equipment while supporting maintenance activities and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor plant systems using DCS and field inspections
  • Support plant start-up, shutdown, and emergency shutdown activities
  • Carry out first-line maintenance and routine operational checks
  • Respond to operational issues and maintain plant performance
  • Identify and report plant defects and abnormalities
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and statutory requirements
  • Work within Permit-to-Work and Safe Systems of Work procedures
  • Support outage planning and plant improvement projects
  • Maintain accurate operational records and documentation
  • Assist with the receipt and handling of plant consumables and raw materials

Skills & Experience

  • NVQ Level 3 or apprenticeship in an Engineering or Process discipline
  • Experience within power generation, utilities, manufacturing, chemical, or process industries
  • First-line maintenance experience
  • Experience working within a continuous process environment
  • Knowledge of Permit-to-Work systems and risk assessments
  • Fault finding and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Office
  • Previous shift-working experience

Desirable

  • Formal qualification in an Engineering discipline
  • IOSH qualification
  • Power generation or energy sector experience
  • Electrical switching or commissioning experience
  • Experience within a safety-critical environment
