Operations & Workshop Manager

Operations & Workshop Manager – Blatchford Prosthetics & Orthotics

We are offering an exciting Operations & Workshop Manager position to provide day-to-day operational leadership and management of the workshop.


The Role

As Operations & Workshop Manager, you will act as deputy to the Centre Manager, providing continuity of leadership, operational oversight, and escalation cover across workshop and operational functions, with a particular focus on:

  • Workshop performance
  • Patient flow
  • Efficiency and control of service delivery

Key Duties:

  • Production control, including workload planning, work-in-progress (WIP), and output management, with day-to-day delivery delegated to the Workshop Lead.
  • Inventory management, ensuring effective purchasing, stock control, audits, receipts, dispatches, and security in coordination with the Workshop Lead and operations team.
  • Compliance assurance with ISO, quality assurance (QA), and health & safety (H&S) standards, supported by the Operation Lead and Workshop Lead.
  • Machinery maintenance oversight and ensuring staff remain trained and competent in safe operation, coordinated with the Workshop Lead.
  • Productivity optimisation, actions of which will be implemented by the Workshop Lead.
  • Ensuring adherence to NHS Trust contract compliance through workshop supervision and monitoring structures.
  • Supporting the Centre Manager in delivering operational performance across:
    • Activity
    • Productivity
    • Access
    • Patient flow
  • Maintaining oversight of:
    • Referral flow
    • Clinic throughput
    • Workshop output
    • Discharge activity (supported by delegated leads)
  • Data-driven decision-making: Using operational data to identify risks, delays, and variations, with actions delivered through the workshop and operational leads.
  • Coordination of clinical, administrative, and workshop activities to reduce delays and bottlenecks.
  • Representing the Centre Manager to ensure leadership continuity, a visible management presence, and support for meeting contractual requirements, KPIs, and reporting obligations.
  • Leading, managing, and developing the Sheffield workforce in conjunction with the Centre Manager.

Key Skills & Requirements:

  • Proven experience in leading operational teams in a regulated environment.
  • Strong understanding of performance, finance, and workforce management.
  • Ability to interpret data and lead improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads, both for self and team members.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels (colleagues, customers, clients, and stakeholders).
  • Strong judgement and decision-making skills.
  • Advanced and appropriately maintained IT proficiency.
