Role Overview
Drainage Operatives are to assist in the delivery of on-site project works to a safe, compliant, and to a high standard of workmanship. You will play a vital role in supporting the operational activities necessary for the delivery of utility services to our customers. The operative will be responsible to the Lead Operative.
More about the role:
- Attend and actively participate in Stand Downs, Team Briefs, Toolbox Talks, and required training courses.
- Assist with the excavation, installation, repair, and maintenance of surface water, foul water, and highway drainage systems.
- Lay drainage pipes, chambers, gullies, catch pits, and associated fittings in accordance with drawings, specifications, and manufacturer requirements, under guidance.
- Assist with trench support systems and ensure excavations are maintained in a safe condition.
- Carry out pipe bedding, backfilling, compaction, and reinstatement activities to required specifications.
- Support the Team Leader with drainage installation activities, including checking levels, gradients, and alignment.
- Safely locate and work around existing underground services in accordance with permit, utility avoidance, and safe digging procedures.
- Identify and promptly report defects, damage, safety concerns, quality issues, or unforeseen site conditions to the Team Leader.
- Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, plant, and machinery where trained, authorized, and competent to do so.
- Assist with over-pumping, flow management, and traffic management activities where trained and authorized.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment, ensuring waste materials are handled and disposed of in accordance with company and environmental requirements.
- Accurately complete work records, photographs, and other site documentation as required.
- Represent the company professionally when dealing with customers, clients, and members of the public.

About You
- Basic experience in drainage or civils construction.
- CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
- Good understanding of health and safety practices on construction sites.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Physically fit and able to carry out manual labor.
- Good IT skills including the ability to use mobile devices such as Mobile Phones & PDA’s.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel to various sites and work flexible hours.
- Full UK driving licence.
