Job Description
Who will you be working with?
Bearward Engineering is a Northampton based firm manufacturing radiators for the power generation industry.
How will you make a difference?
As a member of the Despatch team, working on the 0830-1630 shift (38 hours/week) from Monday-Friday, you will be responsible for safely loading and unloading vehicles using appropriate lifting equipment (e.g., forklift truck), ensuring all goods are transported securely and in line with company and legal safety standards. The role supports efficient delivery operations and ensures customers receive products safely and on time.
Key Responsibilities
Loading & Unloading
- Operate forklift trucks to load and unload goods safely.
- Ensure loads are balanced, secured, and compliant with load-safety regulations.
- Manoeuvre heavy or awkward items using lifting equipment and approved manual-handling techniques.
- Inspect loads for accuracy, condition, and suitability for transport.
Transport & Delivery Support
- Assist drivers with securing loads using straps, chains, or other restraints.
- Support delivery schedules by preparing loads efficiently and accurately.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, warehouse teams, and supervisors to coordinate activities.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Carry out daily checks on forklift trucks and lifting equipment.
- Report defects, damage, or maintenance issues promptly.
- Ensure all lifting equipment and attachments comply with LOLER and PUWER regulations.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company and legal safety standards, including site rules and safe loading practices.
- Use PPE correctly and promote safe working behaviours.
- Maintain clean and safe loading areas free from hazards.
- Complete risk assessments and follow method statements as required.

Documentation & Systems
- Complete loading sheets, delivery notes, and digital logs accurately.
- Record load weights, safety checks, and equipment inspections.
- Use handheld scanners or transport systems where applicable.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Experience operating reach truck or counterbalance forklift.
- Valid Counterbalance FLT certification and full clean driver’s license.
- Understanding of load securing, lifting operations, and safety standards.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work accurately and safely under pressure.
Desirable
- Experience in transport, logistics, construction, or similar environments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, and manoeuvre materials safely.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Fit to operate lifting equipment and work at height where required.
