Job Introduction
An opportunity is available for an Operator (Asset Inspector) based at our Birmingham depot.
As an Operator - Asset Inspector you will be required to inspect National Grid's Distribution's network assets up to and including 11kV, as well as other Assets and excavations within the Company.
To apply, you will need to hold English & Maths GCSE (1-9/G-A*) or equivalent qualification deemed to be at the same level in these subjects, such as Functional Skills.
Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment.
Main Responsibilities
This role involves working independently in the field and spending significant time away from the depot. You will be responsible for using the Company's asset management and inspection systems to identify and prioritise scheduled inspection activities.
- Travelling to sites across the area to carry out inspections of Company assets, excavations, and associated works, assessing their condition and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and procedures.
- Accurate recording of inspection findings is essential, with all results entered either via a handheld electronic device on site or through Company computer systems upon return to the office.
- Any safety concerns, immediate risks, or dangerous conditions identified during inspections must be escalated promptly to the Operations Manager in accordance with Company procedures.

As the role involves travelling throughout the area, a full UK driving licence is essential. A Class C (HGV) licence and HIAB experience are highly desirable, as occasional HGV driving may be required.
Operationally we require you to live within approximately 40 minutes of the depot you are applying for.
