Job Overview
Our ophthalmology department encompasses the Eye Treatment Centre at Frimley Park Hospital, the Mobile Macular Unit (MMU) which moves weekly between Basingstoke, Farnborough, Aldershot and Camberley, Aldershot Centre for Health, Farnham Hospital and Heatherwood outpatients.
The post holder will rotate between all clinical areas within this very busy fast-paced speciality. Ophthalmic Imaging is a specialised form of Medical Photography. This imaging specialism is dedicated to the recording and treatment of many disorders of the eye, both common and rare.
Ophthalmic Imaging plays a critical role in supporting the main aim of Frimley Park Hospital, to be the Centre of Excellence in Ophthalmic care.
Our dedicated team of skilled Ophthalmic Vision Science practitioners hold a broad range of expertise in providing a comprehensive imaging service.

Main Duties of the Job
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
- Support registered practitioners in providing safe and effective care to ophthalmic patients.
- Act in accordance with policies and nursing procedures as per Trust policy.
- Ensure confidentiality of patient records and high standards of documentation under the direct supervision of the registered practitioners.
- Escalate as appropriate any untoward incidents, complaints, and unit issues.
- Attend/complete all mandatory training.
- Promote good working relationships and support the senior ophthalmic team to achieve high morale within the team.
- Use all resources efficiently and effectively maintaining an awareness of budgetary implications.
- Carry out all administrative and ophthalmic duties as delegated by the senior ophthalmic team.
- Be competent within their scope of practice and continue to develop through the acquisition of further skills, knowledge, and competencies determined by the individual clinical area.
- Demonstrate competence in generic and specialist skills following the completion of the appropriate training and education and within twelve months from commencement in role.
- As an employee, comply with and maintain awareness of the Trust’s policies relating to Equal Opportunities.

Experience
Essential Criteria
- Ability to perform area-specific clinical competencies in line with core standards under the direction of a registered practitioner.
- Experience of working in a team, undertaking duties as requested.
Desirable Criteria
- Knowledge of clinical applications.
- Ability to develop positive working relationships with the multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications
Essential Criteria
- Completed Care certificate program or in progress.
- Enthusiastic and motivated to learn.
- Willing to undertake training to carry out extended duties.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in computer skills.
- NVQ Level 3 or 4 in health and social care or working towards this.
Skills & Knowledge
Essential Criteria
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly in English when dealing with patients.
Desirable Criteria
- Can demonstrate examples of the ability to work independently.
