Morecambe Net Zero (MNZ)

Morecambe Net Zero (MNZ) is one of the UK’s most ambitious decarbonisation projects, transforming depleted gas fields in the East Irish Sea into a world-class carbon storage hub. By safely capturing, transporting and permanently storing CO₂ from heavy industry, MNZ will play a vital role in helping the UK achieve its net zero targets while supporting thousands of skilled jobs across the country.

The Opportunity – Opportunity Lead

A customer-centric role, providing conceptual technical, financial, commercial and policy input to the commercialisation of Spirit’s portfolio of energy transition opportunities, including the MNZ carbon storage project in collaboration with Peak Cluster, formation of an integrated CO2 shipping hub on Merseyside and/or at Port of Barrow, and the Barrow Energy Park development.

  • Duration: 1 year contract
  • Contract Type: PAYE
  • Day Rate: TBC

Requirements:

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a focal point for Spirit Energy’s collaborations to develop infrastructure to store CO2 transported by ship, and the Barrow Energy Park, with the primary objective of delivering commercialisation.
  • Work alongside Progressive Energy and Peak Cluster to originate additional CO2 volumes for storage.
  • Owns the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Maintain a customer-centric approach, understanding the needs and constraints of customers to best position Spirit Energy’s offerings.
  • Provide competitive benchmarking and market analysis to demonstrate where the business has a right-to-win and a tangible route to commercialisation.
  • Develops early conceptual value propositions supported by sound judgement, assumptions, industry insights and technical study inputs.
  • Prepares materials for the participation in government funding and subsidy processes.
  • Originate new commercial relationships with customers and value chain participants.
  • Works closely with the Commercial Advisor, and Regulated Asset Economist to secure commercial and economic analysis input to propositions.
  • Remain abreast of the evolving energy transition landscape, including technology, policy, regulatory framework, and investor sentiment to be position Spirit Energy's projects for success.
  • Any other associated duties as reasonably required.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for:

  • An understanding of the fundamental engineering/technical aspects of CCUS and new energies developments.
  • Familiar with CCUS and new energies policy and business models.
  • Familiar with commercial structures for CCUS and new energies developments.
  • Excellent customer-facing communication skills including clear, confident verbal and written communication, an ability to explain complex topics in accessible language, and strong listening skills.
  • Project management of desktop studies.
  • Competent in MS Office Suite including Excel modelling capability.
  • Familiar with CRM systems.
  • Degree in engineering, energy, economics, or related discipline.
  • Postgraduate qualifications and/or professional accreditation (e.g., CEng, CFA, APM) are advantageous.
