Experienced Optical Assistant at While Opticians
Join one of the oldest established opticians in the country - While Opticians, proudly serving since 1868 and still pushing boundaries today. We’re not about conveyor-belt optics. We’re about people, personal style, and doing things the right way.
We’re looking for an experienced Optical Assistant who’s ready to bring their expertise to a warm, friendly, and truly independent practice.
If you love great eyewear, you'll feel right at home here. We stock a fantastic range of frames from all over the world, so it's a brilliant place for an Optical Assistant who enjoys helping people find something they love. We're also getting ready to launch a dry eye clinic. Over the last 30 years, we've built a strong reputation as specialists in children's vision, dyslexia and Colorimetry, with schools from across the county regularly referring children to us for assessments.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
