Precision Optronics Production Technician

Location: [Qioptiq, Teledyne Technologies] Division: [Defense & Aerospace – Optronic Systems] Title: Precision Optronics Production Technician

Qioptiq designs and manufactures market-leading optronic solutions, from head-up displays (HUD) for commercial airliners, helmet-mounted displays (HMDs) for fast-jet platforms, night-vision systems for soldiers, to electro-optics for airborne and vehicle platforms. Our innovations rely on high-precision optics assembly, and we seek visionary individuals who can drive excellence in component production.


Job Outline

To produce high-precision optronic lens components and assemblies within dimensional tolerances, timeframes, and company standards—often under the guidance of a Senior Technician—across a range of machining and production processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality Control & Accuracy:
    • Ensure components meet dimensional tolerances required for further processing and final assembly.
  • Tooling Selection & Setup:
    • Select, inspect, and prepare specialist tooling needed for accurate component manufacture.
    • Achieve efficient production with minimal waste through meticulous preparatory work.
  • Machinery & Process Control:
    • Operate and set-up precision machinery for consistent, high-quality outputs.
    • Inspect components in-progress and make adjustments to meet specifications.
    • Re-work components to avoid costly losses where feasible.
  • Mentorship & Efficiency:
    • Train and assist colleagues on machinery and processes.
    • Uphold strict quality and safety standards for all manufacturing stages.
  • Maintenance & Process Improvement:
    • Keep work areas and equipment clean (as per scheduled maintenance schedules).
    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimise production and business performance.

Person Specification

Essential Requirements:

✅ Possession of a grade B or above in GCSE Maths and Science (or equivalent). ✅ Engineering or manufacturing background, particularly involving high-precision or high-value components. ✅ Ability to upskill and adapt to new operations and technologies. ✅ Practical experience in production processes and manufacturing environments.

Desirable Attributes:

✨ A-Level (or equivalent) qualification in Physics or Mathematics or relevant STEM subject. ✨ Experience working in automotive, machinery, or aerospace precision manufacturing. ✨ Understanding of mechanical principles and process engineering. ✨ Awareness or experience with AS9100 quality management system1.
