Metric are partnered with a growing full stack quantum computing company who are actively expanding their team. They are looking for a Optical Systems Engineer with a focus on Product and real world deployment to join their team in London.

What you'll do:

  • Own end-to-end build and bring-up of key hardware subsystems, from assembly and commissioning through upgrades and decommissioning
  • Diagnose complex opto-electronic faults and drive root-cause fixes to improve reliability and repeatability
  • Develop and improve assembly, test, and service procedures, including documentation and tooling
  • Work with R&D to turn lab concepts into manufacturable, customer-ready features
  • Support on-site customer installations and upgrades as technical point of contact
  • Work with suppliers on component sourcing, balancing performance, cost, and lead times

Required:

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in physics, engineering, or related field, with strong knowledge of photonic/opto-electronic systems
  • Experience building, integrating, and troubleshooting hardware combining optics, electronics, and software control
  • Hands-on fibre optic handling (patching, routing, cleanliness practices) to high precision
  • Python and/or C++ for instrumentation, drivers, data acquisition, automation, analysis
  • Ownership mindset and comfort operating in a fast-changing, commercially-driven environment

Nice to haves:

  • Interest or experience in quantum optics/computing or advanced scientific instruments
  • Supply chain, procurement, or BOM management experience
  • Knowledge of CE/UKCA/FCC compliance
