Job Outline

An exciting Mechanical Design Engineer role is available at our North Wales site. The successful candidate will:

  • Work within a strong engineering team to design mechanical solutions aligned with business requirements.
  • Ensure precision lens components and assemblies are produced with defined dimensions within planned timelines.
  • Operate under Qioptiq’s stringent quality control processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality Assurance & Dimensional Control

    • Ensure components meet dimensional accuracy standards for further processing.
    • Select, inspect, and prepare tooling to guarantee accurate production.
  • Edge Precision Manufacturing

    • Prepare components efficiently, minimising expensive losses from defects.
    • Operator machinery, both conventional and CNC-based, to produce high-precision components.
    • Implement process adjustments based on quality examinations throughout production.
  • Machinery & Process Optimisation

    • Inspect components in real-time and determine corrective measures to achieve final specifications.
    • Re-work damaged components when feasible to reduce waste.
    • Train colleagues on equipment operation and departmental workflows.
  • Maintenance & Continuous Improvement

    • Maintain equipment and work areas per company standards.
    • Participate in process/business improvement initiatives to enhance productivity.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications & Experience

✔ Manufacturing experience (related industrial environment preferred) ✔ Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and technical understanding ✔ Aptitude to follow strict dimensional and quality tolerances

Desirable Attributes

✅ NVQ3 Level or equivalent ✅ A-Level in relevant STEM subjects ✅ Knowledge of both conventional and CNC machining processes ✅ Experience with AS9100 industry standards (aviation-quality focus)

Candidate Flexibility
