An excellent opportunity has arisen at our Devonport Site for an Optimisation Engineer. As the Optimisation Engineer, you will identify and execute maintenance optimisation initiatives for Royal Navy Submarines, enhancing operational availability by refining maintenance processes, schedules, and design requirements.

The role primarily focuses on Nuclear Steam Raising Plant (NSRP) and support systems but may extend to non-NSRP systems as required. A key aspect of the role involves working in a joint team with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Babcock to deliver collaborative solutions. The overall goal is to reduce downtime and increase submarine availability through technical analysis, data-driven decisions, and cross-functional collaboration.
What you will be doing:
- Maintenance Optimisation:
- Identify, assess, and implement opportunities to optimise current maintenance processes, aiming to reduce time spent in maintenance and increase submarine operational availability.
- Technical Analysis and Justification:
- Leverage engineering expertise to analyse maintenance tasks and system designs, providing technical justifications for proposed changes.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Engage with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Defence (MOD), Submarine Enterprise partners, and internal technical teams to understand operational needs and deliver optimised maintenance solutions.
- Project Management:
- Collaborate closely with optimisation projects, ensuring timely delivery, budget adherence, and alignment with technical and operational quality standards. Oversee resources and execution of approved initiatives.
- Data Analysis and Trend Identification:
- Analyse historical maintenance and performance data to identify trends, predict future maintenance needs, and set benchmarks. Use statistical tools to support decisions and drive continuous improvement in maintenance schedules.
- Cross-Functional Engagement:
- Collaborate closely with engineering, design, and operations teams across the Submarine Enterprise to ensure the effective execution of optimisation projects and seamless integration into broader operations.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Drive continuous improvement efforts in submarine maintenance by applying lessons learned, best practices, and innovative methodologies to enhance future maintenance strategies.
- Technical Leadership:
- Provide technical guidance and leadership to project teams and enterprise partners, ensuring the successful implementation of maintenance and technical initiatives.

Position Qualifications:
- A degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related disciplines) or equivalent experience is required.
- Working knowledge of submarine systems, including nuclear reactor plants, hydraulic, pneumatic, structural, electrical, and electronic components. Experience in the submarine enterprise or related industries (e.g., aerospace, oil and gas) is advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to tackle complex technical issues by systematically analysing maintenance challenges and system inefficiencies. Experience in developing and implementing data-driven solutions to optimise maintenance processes.
- Experience in delivering projects from concept through delivery, ensuring alignment with objectives, deadlines, and quality standards.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines, you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place.
