# Optometrist – Asda Opticians Location: Peterborough
About the Role
Employment Type: Part-time Shift Pattern: Days Hours per Week: 36 Contract Type: Permanent
We champion healthcare excellence at Asda Opticians—our top priority is delivering high-quality patient care with compassion and professionalism. You’ll be entrusted with essential tasks, such as conducting eye examinations, contact lens fittings, and extended service checks, alongside our Dispensing Optician Manager to uphold departmental standards.
As part of our NHS contracts, we provide a wide range of eye care services, from diagnosing eye conditions to fibre optic-monitoring. We’ll invest in your professional growth by:
- Funding additional accreditations (WECs/MECs within 12 months) to expand your capabilities.
- Supporting CPD (Continuing Professional Development) via a structured programme.
- Offering protected time to pursue further qualifications.

Responsibilities
You’ll be the bridge between clinic excellence and memorable customer experiences, enjoying autonomy in:
- Clinical examinations (routine, contact lens, and extended service)
- Supporting the training and coaching of staff to uphold high standards
- Fostering patient relationships through compassionate, personalised care
- Shaping new services and contributing to departmental innovation
- Adhering to all NHS and GOC guidelines
Requirements
Non-Negotiable Essential Criteria
You must: ✔ Be a fully qualified optometrist, registered with the [General Optical Council (GOC)] ✔ Hold an approved NHS Performer Status (or relevant designation in your region) ✔ Be M&E/WECS accredited (or willing to gain accreditation within 12 months, which Asda will fund and support) ✔ Meet the statutory CPD points requirement ✔ Prove your Right to Work in the UK ✔ Provide 2 clinical references + NHS Performer List evidence (or WECS & WGOS modules for Wales) ✔ Fully commit to delivering exceptional customer service with passion
