Overview

Our Operating Room Surgical Technicians play a crucial role in assisting surgeons and nurses during surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room functions smoothly and safely. Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures, ensuring that all equipment, instruments, and supplies are properly sterilized, organized, and available for use.
- Assist surgical team by passing instruments, supplies, and equipment during procedures, anticipating the needs of the surgeon and maintaining a sterile field.
- Set up and operate specialized surgical equipment, including lights, suction devices, and diagnostic equipment, following manufacturer instructions and safety guidelines.
- Monitor and maintain aseptic technique throughout surgical procedures, including draping, gowning, and gloving, to prevent infection and ensure patient safety.
- Assist with patient positioning and prepping, applying sterile drapes and securing equipment as directed by the surgical team.
- Anticipate and respond to emergency situations in the operating room, including providing additional supplies or assistance as needed.
- Collaborate with surgical team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of procedures, communicating effectively and respectfully with all team members.
- Assist with post-operative tasks, such as wound closure, dressing application, and transferring patients to recovery areas, following established protocols and guidelines.
- Participate in quality assurance activities, including maintaining accurate records of surgical procedures, equipment usage, and patient care documentation.
- Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols at all times, promoting a culture of safety and accountability in the operating room.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of accredited surgical technology program preferred.
- Must possess one (1) year experience in hospital setting. Prefer minimum of 1 year current operating room experience.
- Knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile technique.
- Ability to anticipate surgeon's needs and adapt to changing priorities during surgical procedures.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse team members under pressure.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and upholding ethical standards in patient care.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Credentials
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required.
- BLS – Basic Life Saving Certification
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required, additional education or certification in sterile processing preferred
- Graduated from a Surgical Technology program
